Bike to Work Week has been pushed back to June! This is very exciting news for us Art-Bikers who pray for sun every year so we can really get creative with our costumes. The weather will be on our side!

Bike to Work Week
June 6-12

The Art Bike Rally will be Saturday, June 6th at 11am starting at the Capitol (top of State St.)

We hope to have the biggest turnout yet and some really excellent bicycles!

Bike Party

The annual 2008 Art Bike Rally was a success!! Over 50 riders and their excellent bikes made it to the rally. This year, we had the some old favorites and some new bikes as well. The classic grass bike with a new mohawk helmet was in full effect. Orgami bike was lovely as usual...

Because of a glitch in the PA system, the riders had to be extra creative this year. We made up some chants and talked to people along the way. Bike to work, Bike to work! Yada yada yada yada BIKE!

I believe this model is a newby to the rally. Love the sparkle and leather.

It's that time of year! Finally the spring shows itself and biking season is in full swing.
Congrats to you hardcore bikers who biked to work all winter long. In my opinion, that was quite a feat!

Bike to Work Week coming up fast...find a complete calendar of events at the Bike Fed website. Thanks to the Bike Federation for organizing this week of events and inspiring more people to ride bikes! Also, thanks to Budget Bicycle for sponsoring the Art Bike Rally. This event is always a memorable for the people who participate and those to see it. The rally is a great visual medium to get people thinking about riding their bikes!

If you've never participated before, make this year your first! It's easy! Just show up with your bike and ride around the square, twice!

Winter Biking

Some people think biking in the winter is crazy (especially this winter), but it can also be a lot of fun. This is a little video we made on Lake Monona to demo the ice tires that my husband uses to bike to work. We sent the video to Nokian, the tire manufacturer and they sent us some free tires to support our hobby! That's me on the skates and Markus on the bike.

It was the kind of day you write home about. The 10th annual Art Bike Rally went off with a bang. Rain or shine we said it would happen and lucky for us, it was all shine. Thanks to all the bikers whose creativity sparkled all the way around the capitol. So many art bikes: silver shining, fuzzy, pink, princess, groovy, grass, balloon, bowling ball, super hero, ordinary, orgami....and so many more.

A round of applause to thank everyone who helped make the rally happen. This event is a labor of love for a few very dedicated art bikers.

The annual Bike To Work Week, hosted by the Bike Fed of Wisconsin is coming soon! That means the 9th annual Art Bike Parade!

Grab your bikes and decorate!

Madison Art Bikes needs your help. In return we are willing to guarantee
that you will be fed, caffeinated, AND have a great time.

Sat. April 28th and Sat. May 5, from 2 PM to 6 PM.

Come to 1133 E. Wilson ( a block west of Willy St., right on the bike path), which is also the home of RP's Pasta and Just Coffee, who will be providing delicious treats. We have a storage pod there full of unusual bikes, ready for your test-riding. We are of course delighted if you bring your own bike to decorate. We will have all the supplies you need. Even though Bike to Work week has passed, we like to keep the bike rolling so to speak.

This weekend, the annual Kinetic Sculpture Race starts in Arcata, CA. These people take art bikes to a whole new level...a three day, 40 mile trek. It started today at noon.

It's official. Bike to Work Week is here and the Art Bike Rally went off with a bang, Rain not Shine. Thanks to all the hardcore art bikers who showed up and got wet. If you missed it, some art bikes are on display at Firecracker Studio, 1917 Winnebago St. for the week. Check it out. Also, check out the calendar of events to celebrate those great people who bike to work for just the week or for the whole year. What an inspiring bunch of people, bikers are.

This mother-daughter team was pure creative genius. The Sock Monkey Bike, ridden and designed by Olive, was a sure runner up to bike of the year.

Art Bike of the year, the "Pine Pony" ridden by Adam was a head turner. He put a lot of work into making this ride.

Rain or Shine, we said it would happen....and it did! The 2006 Art Bike Rally was full of dedicated bikers who showed up in the rain on some really cool bikes.

Big thanks to all the people who worked hard to make this event possible. There are a handful of dedicated volunteers who make this happen every year...and because of them, we can just show up and have some good fun!

It's a party. Bring some beer, your bike to finish decorating, and any ideas you have for making things run smoothly on Saturday.

We plan to test drive some NEW and FABULOUS art bikes, choreograph some bits and chants, get the MC's PA bike ready, make Insti-Art Bike Streamers for drop-ins on Saturday, make Art Bike cards promoting the website and bikes in general to hand out on Saturday, coordinate volunteer tasks, shuttle bikes to the storage space on the square so they are there bright and early Saturday morning, and meet and hang with our special guests from Chicago, the Rat Pack!

The Rally is this coming Saturday, May 13.....I was biking around town quite a bit this weekend and was struck by all the people out on bikes of all sorts of design and function. The east side was teeming with tall and otherwise tricked-out bikes, families on wheels and with trailers, and otherwise cool, self-powered, self-pedaled projects. Does anyone know the folks on Jenifer Street with the new pedicabs parked in the front lawn?

Help Make an Oragami Bike

The Madison Children's Museum is hosting an Art Bike Making Workshop this Saturday, MAY 6 from 3-4 PM. Guest artist Ruthanne Bessmann will help create many many little oragami creatures to build a one-of-a-kind bike. No need to register, just stop by the Museum (100 State Street) on Saturday and join the fun (Workshop is free with the price of Museum admission).

Grass Seed

Last Saturday, the Grass Bike was seeded at the Farmer's Market on the Capitol Square. With spray adhesive and a bag of grass seed, the bike was created as the crowd strolled through the market. It was fun to see everyone's faces turn from puzzlement to wonder, as they tried to figure out what was going on with this bike.

We look forward to the green results on May 13!

This year is Madison's 150th Birthday. Recent geneological research shows that 2006 also marks the 150th year of annual Art Bike Happenings in the greater Isthmus area! In the long-standing tradition of all those ingenius peddlers before us, we need 150 riders at this year's ART BIKE RALLY.
